Beauty surrounds is an abstract musical portrait of a town whose industry and unique importance have dwindled over the years. Filmed entirely in the seaside town of Morecambe, it takes us on a meander through derelict theatres, hotels, and underused ballrooms & into the lives and living rooms of retired entertainers. Employing a narrative which interlaces ethereal sequences and documentary elements punctuated with visual metaphors - the film tells the story through dance, music and photography.
Sonja Campbell was born in Blackburn, Lancashire. After studying at Glasgow School of Art she moved to London where her work appeared in The Independent, The Guardian, The Times and various magazines & publications. She relocated back to the North with her young family in 2004. Settling in Morecambe, she has continued her work as an artist. As a collector of vernacular photography, she set up "The Snapshot Museum" three years ago as an ongoing online project and lottery funded touring exhibition.
"Beauty surrounds Health abounds" is Sonja's first film.

Woodcraft Folk will be providing a 15 minute musical performance with accompaning images which will be projected onto a screen.

WIRED IN will be previewing two new tracks from the forthcoming debut album by The Heartbreaks, this will form a soundtrack to Hannah Farrell's photographs on Morecambe, which will be projected onto the Dukes screen in the Gallery.
